Used BMW 3 Series door: how to buy one that fits
Used BMW 3 Series door: how to buy one that fits
To buy the right used BMW 3 Series door, match your generation, the side (nearside or offside), and your paint colour code. A door is a large, handed panel, so a genuine used one fits and looks factory for a fraction of the price of new, provided you order the right version.
Which 3 Series do you have?
The door changed across the generations and they do not swap over. The E90 saloon and E91 touring ran from 2005 to 2012, the F30 and F31 from 2012 to 2019, and the G20 from 2019. A saloon door and a touring door differ at the rear, so the body style matters as much as the year. Your registration confirms the exact build.
Nearside or offside, front or rear?
Doors are handed and position-specific. Nearside is the kerb (passenger) side, offside is the driver's side, and front and rear doors are not the same. Work out the exact door you need, for example offside front, before you order, because the wrong corner will not fit.
How do I get the colour right?
Match your paint colour code, found on the VIN plate or in the door shut, and a colour matched used door goes straight on. If the colour does not match, a bodyshop can respray the panel before fitting. The listing should always state the colour, so you know exactly what you are getting.
What about the glass, wiring and trim?
Decide whether you need a bare door skin or a complete door with the glass, regulator, wiring, speaker and trim card. A complete door saves swapping parts over, but the electrics and trim must match your specification. Confirm what the listing includes before you buy.
